We are aware that from time to time unsolicited renewal notices may be sent to our clients. Sometimes these may look like legitimate notices or may even direct registrants to a similar web site. These notices may also be sent by parties whose name is unknown to you and who are not authorised by you to manage your domain name renewal.

The notices appear to be intended to mislead and deceive registrants into renewing their domain name or obtaining their credit card details. They can occur in any domain space.

We encourage all registrants to be aware of such practices and recommend you use the following general tips to help determine the validity of such offers/notices:

If you have received a notice and you have provided your credit card details online and you are unable to subsequently verify the identity of the person or company that operates the web site (or have doubts about their identity), we recommend that you contact your credit card provider for advice immediately.

By being vigilant and aware about your purchases, registrants can avoid any unnecessary anxiety and continue to enjoy the full benefits of purchasing online and the www experience.

General Tips for Renewing:

Only deal through accredited Registrars and/or Resellers
Know who manages your domain name on your behalf - refer to old notices if you don't.
Be aware of the Expiry Date of your domains and keep accurate records.
Look for the 'https' in the url, this means it is a secure or encrypted site.
Always check if a site is secure, see if a padlock symbol is displayed on the bottom of your browser window.
By double clicking on the padlock you should be able to view a 'digital certificate' box which verifies who owns the web site.
Never put credit card details into a non-secure web site.
If in doubt, contact the party you wish to pay and they can confirm you are using their web site. If you repeatedly cannot make contact then be wary.
Advise all your staff about these notices.
