We have kindly been informed that Domain Registry Services have
recently moved to a number of different addresses including:
Compass House, Vision Park, Cambridge, CB4 9AD
Office 6, 154 Church End, Cambridge, C81 3LD - they also have
a new telephone number: 0870 950 0369
Apparently they are still sending out bogus letters about Domain
Expiration and charging £60 for a two yr renewal - please
let us know if these addresses change again...
SOME GOOD NEWS - PRESS RELEASE FROM NOMINET
Civil court case brings 'Domain Registry Services' bogus invoicing
scam to an end
Nominet UK, the .uk Internet domain name registry, has won its
case against Peter Francis-Macrae and Ultra Technologies Ltd,
a company of which Mr Francis-Macrae is the sole director. Francis-Macrae
was ordered to pay Nominet costs of £81,000, with damages
to be determined at a later date.
Francis-Macrae has 14 days from the date of the order (8 February
2005) to comply with payment of the incurred costs.
Francis-Macrae was found liable of copying and using records
from Nominet's WHOIS database to send out fraudulent domain name
renewal invoices under the name of 'Domain Registry Services'.
Nominet also obtained permanent injunctions preventing Francis-Macrae
or his companies from causing any damage to Nominet's computer
systems, harassing Nominet staff, misusing the .uk WHOIS database
or trading under the misleading 'Domain Registry Services' name.
He was further ordered to provide Nominet with a full set of accounts,
a list of names and addresses of customers obtained from the Nominet
database and to cover the costs incurred by Nominet in rectifying
these actions.
Commenting on the judgement, Lesley Cowley, Chief Executive of
Nominet UK, said: "We are delighted with the outcome of this
case. It sends a clear and strong message to those that may be
considering similar scams that this sort of behaviour will not
be tolerated now or in the future."
After his arrest on 29 November 2004, Francis-Macrae is still
in custody on several charges unrelated to this case. Developments
in the criminal case will continue at Peterborough Crown Court.
