Fake
Microsoft Email
Quote from Microsoft: 'If you receive an
e-mail that claims to contain software from Microsoft, do not run
the attachment. The safest course of action is to delete the mail
altogether. If you would like to take additional action, report
the e-mail to the sender's Internet Service Provider. Most ISPs
provide an "abuse" userid for this purpose'.
The latest fake email message promises a
fix for the MSBlaster computer worm,
and urges people to click on an attached file. Naturally, the attachment
is not what it seems...
According to Microsoft spokesman Sean Sundwall, the message looks
official, but the attachment should be a red flag. "We absolutely
never send e-mail with attachments," Sundwall said. "Most
reputable companies would never send an attachment about something
of that nature. If you see one, you know it's a hoax." More
information is available at the Microsoft
site.
